The Coro Ecuménico Gran Canaria was founded in 2018 on the initiative of Pastor Brent Fisher, St. Moritz, Switzerland, under the auspices of the Evangelical Tourism Community of Gran Canaria.
Since then, it has been rehearsing every Friday during the winter season from December to March, initially in the community centre of the tourism community and, after the Corona Pandemic 2020/2021, in the Centro Ecuménico in Playa del Inglés.
The repertoire ranges from baroque music to gospels, Taize songs and new spiritual songs from around the world.
The members of the Coro Ecuménico come from 10 different ecumenical congregations in 9 countries. The languages of communication are English and German.
The musical director is Nis-Edwin List-Petersen, Aabenraa, Denmark.
Guest conductor and solo violinist is Marc Multhaupt, Berlin Germany, who has also taken on the design and maintenance of the website.
The pianist in the first season of 2018 was Sinnika Honkanen, Finland.
From the 2018/2019 season until the pandemic, the Coro Ecuménico was accompanied by Gerli Kirikal on the piano and by her partner Martin Gorris on the flute, both from Estonia.
Roman Ponomarev has been the Coro’s pianist since 2021.
The Coro performs a so-called ‘Templo Concert’ at the Templo Ecuménico once a season.
Otherwise, he performs at the traditional ‘Ecumenical Prayer for Peace’ at the end of the year, at the ‘Ecumenical Prayer for Christian Unity’ at the end of January, and at the request of the congregations at the Templo Ecuménico during their services, contributing to the musical programme.
All those who enjoy singing are welcome to join the Coro Ecuménico!
